TENNIS AT CHARLES RIVER

The Charles River Tennis Club provides play primarily for adults (we offer no lessons and have no provision for child care) on four green clay courts, two of the courts are under lights for night play, in a wooded, residential neighborhood in Medway, Massachusetts.

The club is operated on a not-for-profit basis by its members. It is open seven days a week (weather permitting) from mid-April to mid-October; playing hours are 9 AM to 10 PM.

Amenities include tables and chairs and a small clubhouse with rest rooms for men and women; the chief amenity is a peaceful and sheltered site for playing tennis. The courts are maintained by the club on a daily basis, but members are expected individually to sweep the courts and clean the lines after playing.

Club activities, beyond privately arranged matches, include various singles and doubles leagues, occasional weekend tournaments, and round-robin play on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings.

Saturday and Sunday mornings (9am to 12pm) are kept open for come-one, come-all play. At all times, members attempt to accommodate newcomers.

Members also get together at the beginning and end of the year for work parties to open and close the club, as well as for a family picnic towards the end of the summer. In the winter, the club sponsors two or three indoor tennis socials.

The main event of the season is the annual Bud Leggee Open Tournament the last weekend in July, named for the late founder of the club; it is open both to members and to non-members, and typically attracts a competitive field that includes a number of local teaching professionals.  To view the club champions, click on the following link; Club Champions
